Joy Publishing Submission Guidelines:

          What to Include

A cover letter that answers these questions:

· What is the book's subject matter and approach?

· Specifically for whom is the book written?

· What distinguishes your book from others on the subject?

· What need or purpose does your book fulfill that the others do not?

· What are your qualifications for writing this book?

· Why is your book appropriate for Joy Publishing?

Also, please include:

· A sample chapter or two.

· A brief one-paragraph synopsis of each of the other chapters.

· An appropriately sized self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of your proposal (if you want it returned).

· If you are submitting a previously published book, please send a copy of the book in lieu of a manuscript.

        How to Submit

· Your cover letter, sample chapters, and one-paragraph synopses must all be typed with a clean typewriter ribbon or printed from a computer using Times New Roman 12-point type or similar serif font. Do not hand write or hand print your submission.

· Double space your material, retaining ample margins.

· Use only one side of quality 8 x 11 inch white bond paper (not onion skin or any other thin paper).

· Bind your material only with rubber bands or an oversized binder clip. Do not staple, paste- up, or attach anything that will interfere with photocopying should multiple copies be necessary for committee review.

· Consecutively number your pages throughout.

· Type your name and address on each document you submit.

· Submit only clean and easily readable photocopies.

· Mail your material flat in an envelope with adequate postage. Do not fold your submission.

What NOT to Submit

· Do not send audio cassettes, computer disks, or video tapes in lieu of typed manuscripts.

· Although Joy Publishing does extensive editing on manuscripts, we do not have the staff for re-writing, ghost-writing, or to serve as coauthors. You may want to contact local universities or colleges, writers guilds, or editorial services for such assistance.

· Joy does not review proposals for tracts; booklets; sermons; dissertations; four-color children's storybooks; coloring books; game, puzzle, or craft books; art books; cookbooks; charts; books of quotation or poetry; short story collections; plays; romances; Sunday school curriculum; high school textbooks; or books on tape.

· We cannot be responsible for original manuscripts, photos, artwork, etc. Do not send these materials (make photocopies instead).
